The movie Going My Way was largely about the generational divide between hip young Father O’Malley and the old, on-his-way-out Father Fitzgibbon. In fact, it is explicitly stated that Father O’Malley has been assigned to be in charge of the faltering St. Dominic’s while pretending that Father Fitz still calls the shots.
